FODMAP & Bristol

FODMAP Intelligence and Bristol Scale tracking

Review FODMAP grades for logged ingredients and place Bristol Scale entries on the same timeline as meals and symptoms. Stop guessing. Start knowing.

The four groups

FODMAPs are four families of carbohydrate, not one

People can respond differently to each group. Gut Pace tracks them separately, helping you review whether certain ingredients or portions repeatedly appear near symptoms.

Oligosaccharides

Fructans and GOS — wheat, onion, garlic, legumes. The most common trigger group by far.

Disaccharides

Lactose in milk, soft cheese and yoghurt.

Monosaccharides

Excess fructose in apples, mango, honey and agave.

Polyols

Sorbitol and mannitol in stone fruit, cauliflower and sugar-free gum.

Search the FODMAP database

This is a small live sample of the grading the scanner applies to every ingredient it recognises. Search a food or filter by severity.

  • White rice

No detectable FODMAPs — a reliable base food.

    Safe
  • Carrot

Low in all FODMAP groups at normal serving sizes.

    Safe
  • Ripe banana

Fructans climb sharply as the banana ripens.

    Moderate
  • Unripe banana

Low FODMAP up to one medium fruit.

    Low
  • Onion

Fructans. One of the most common IBS triggers.

    Very high
  • Garlic

Fructans. Garlic-infused oil is a safe substitute.

    Very high
  • Wheat bread

Fructans — sourdough spelt is usually better tolerated.

    High
  • Cow's milk

Lactose. Lactose-free milk is low FODMAP.

    High
  • Hard cheese

Aged cheeses contain almost no lactose.

    Safe
  • Apple

    Excess fructose plus sorbitol.

    High
  • Blueberries

Low FODMAP up to about 40 g.

    Low
  • Avocado

Sorbitol. An eighth of a fruit is usually fine.

    Moderate
  • Chickpeas (canned, rinsed)

Rinsing removes much of the GOS.

    Low
  • Lentils (dried, boiled)

GOS. Portion size matters a lot here.

    High
  • Honey

Excess fructose. Maple syrup is the low-FODMAP swap.

    High
  • Sourdough spelt bread

    Fermentation breaks down most fructans.

    Low
  • Cauliflower

Mannitol. Broccoli heads are a safer choice.

    Very high
  • Spinach

    Low FODMAP in generous servings.

    Safe
  • Watermelon

    Fructose, fructans and mannitol together.

    Very high
  • Oats (rolled)

    Low FODMAP at half-cup servings.

Bristol scale

Seven types, one tap

Stool form can add useful context to your gut health timeline. Gut Pace records it in one tap, without asking you to write a detailed note.

Tap a Bristol type

Type 4 — Smooth, soft sausage

Ideal. The target for most people.

In the app this is one tap, and it feeds straight into the digestion portion of your Logging Points and into the doctor-ready export.
